Job Description

SAIC is expecting to receive a 2-year contract to develop the powertrain for the TARDEC Fuel Economy Demonstrator Program, a HMMWV sized vehicle. This contract demands significant technical contributions, in hardware and software, requiring multiple areas of expertise, and we are forming a skilled interdisciplinary engineering team to perform the work. We will build on the core SAIC expertise in hybrid electric drive systems for military applications, and engineering team members will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with counterparts in the domestic automotive, as well as the automobile racing industries.

The prototype will be built at the Roush facility in Allen Park, Michigan. It is desired that this position be filled in the Detroit, MI metro area. If not, significant travel will be required.

The Senior Hybrid Electric Powertrain Engineer will work as part of this integrated Hybrid Electric Drive team. He/she will employ simulation, modelling and design tools relevant to the discipline, and be responsible for the overall design performance of the system under the general direction of the Program Manager.

Expert level knowledge of Hybrid Electric Drive Integration. Comprehensive understanding of systems development life cycle and systems engineering role throughout life cycle. Detailed knowledge of many of the systems engineering competencies, and recognized expertise in some of these areas. Able to handle seldom and unusually occurring technical challenges and job events within the competency areas of detailed knowledge. Excellent people and organization skills are required. Ability to work in a rapid paced environment is essential. Candidate must be an energetic self-starter; well organized; able to work independently and in a team environment. Must possess first-rate written skills and verbally articulate thoughts in a clear and concise manner.

Required Education/Skills:
MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field of study, with 10+ years experience in Hybrid Electric hardware development and integration.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience working in military and commercial automotive programs, especially in context of rapid development/prototyping. Specific exposure to hybrid electric drive systems a plus.
