Job Description
Our Metro Detroit client is a global leader in providing plastic welding solutions to all industries. They are searching for an experienced Engineering Manager for a direct-hire position. Our client offers an excellent work environment with challenging opportunities for their employees. This is a very hands-on position with full engineering responsibility reporting directly to the President. Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Supervision of the complete engineering design department - currently 16 employees
- Control of process to ensure most efficient design
- Meeting competitive budgets
- Establish competitive budgets for new project estimates
- Minimize technical risk for the company by constant improvement of the design area
- Liaison between the design and the Program Management areas to strengthen the interaction between the departments and making sure that timelines are being kept
- Development of standardized processes for the Engineering department
- Detection of savings potential for machinery and equipment and development of strategies to realize the potential as well as ensuring the implementation of the strategies
- Coordination of R/D efforts to maximize profit and savings
- Securing communication and cooperation between the German and American design department in order to improve the knowledge management between the companies
- Evaluation of the team performance with responsibility for personnel development and strategies
- Implement processes to increase design efficiencies for more competitive pricing
- Ensure Engineering change procedures
- Ensure Safety requirements are met
- PLM Implementation/Drawing management
The successful candidate will have the following characteristics: self starter; analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize duties and meet deadlines in a changing environment; high level of communication skills; strong computer and presentation skills; excellent organizational and procedural management skills. Requirements:
- Minimum of a BA/BS in Engineering
- 5 to 7 years of experience in a machine building/design environment, with 3+ years as a Manager
- Strong 3D CAD skills are preferred Unigraphics NX 4 and higher
- Hands-on experience in tooling and modifying production equipment
- Automated Systems design is a plus
- Plastic Welding experience is a plus
