Expert in the use of STAR-CD, ICEM-CFD, and ES-ICE.
Familiarity with chemical kinetics/combustion modeling (eg ECFM-3Z, DARS, CHEMKIN), and fuel spray modeling.
Able to manipulate and translate Catia V5 data in support of 3D analyses.
Familiar with Linux and Unix operating systems.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Experience with Matlab/Simulink is desired.

EDUCATION
BSME required; MS or PhD preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of related engine simulation experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will be a dedicated 3D engine simulation resource supporting a new engine program. Responsibilities of this position can include any, and potentially all of the following 3D related activities:

- assess combustion design quality via turbulent kinetic energy, burn rates, normalized turbulent intensity calculations, and relate to experimental measurements
- assess O2 sensor location based on CFD flow field analysis
- assess mixing quality based on equivalence ratio distribution within the combustion chamber
- assess injector placement, and charge motion based on tumble ratio, evaporation rate and wall wetting metrics
- familiar enough with GT-Power to perform 1D/3D coupled simulation to accurately predict engine performance impact of induction and exhaust systems
- perform 3D knock analysis based on Shell or DARS model, and relate to experimental measurements
- perform post-processing tasks and analyses, including animation of the results, to effectively convey results/conclusions to the end user
- generate boundary conditions for other analyses
- work iteratively with Design and Systems Teams to reach solutions that meet program objectives

The engineer will participate in weekly meetings with the product Design and Systems Teams. At these meetings, the engineer will present summaries of work done to date, and will receive direction on future work.
